B. firmusproduces as secondary metabolites enzymes that break down nematode egg walls, thereby acting on nematode eggs and larvae inside the eggs. In this way, it significantly reduces the population of parasites, and therefore the damage to crops. B. firmus colonizes the root surface and creates a physical barrier preventing nematodes from accessing the root system. By colonizing root hairs, it disorients nematodes and reduces penetration into the roots of cultivated crops. B. firmus produces plant hormones that stimulate the activity of the root system and influence the rapid recovery of the plant.
