For highly productive cow farms, it is extremely important that the food they consume is bulky and of high quality, since the same farms produce over 10,000 liters of milk per cow, and that amount sometimes goes even over 15,000 liters.

Silko significantly contributes to the preparation of quality food, which is crucial for the profitability of dairy cow farms. It is obtained from plants harvested in the optimal phase of maturity (corn in the wax phase and alfalfa before flowering) and preserved as soon as possible (in one to two days).

Why is corn silage needed?

Here are the most important arguments that emphasize the importance of corn silage:

  • Availability of food for periods of the year with low plant mass production
  • It does not depend on the weather
  • Lower costs
  • Minimal loss of nutrients
  • In silage, losses are 10-15%, and in hay 30-40%
  • Highly tasty food
  • Can be prepared from plants with a high yield of green mass (60-70 t / ha)
  • It allows two harvests a year
  • Requires 2 to 2.5 times less storage space
  • Possible degradation of antinutritive factors

Silko for corn contains homofermentative bacteria that use more than 90% of sugar for the synthesis of lactic acid, which has strong bactericidal but fungicidal properties, important for controlling the activity of fungi (mold and yeast) in possible subsequent fermentation.

In this way, Silko for corn increases the aerobic stability of silage after opening silo trenches. Lactic acid produced by lactic acid bacteria from Silko inhibits the growth of other microorganisms that are intolerant to acidic conditions (yeasts, molds, enterobacteria, and clostridia-causes of silage spoilage).

As the pH value decreases, silage losses due to the conversion of soluble plant carbohydrates into lactic acid are reduced by 96.9%. Silko for corn contains a combination of different strains of bacteria that can ferment different types of sugar in the material being ensiled, resulting in maximum sugar utilization and lactic acid production.

By using Silko for corn, we shorten the natural fermentation path, the optimal pH value is achieved faster, the losses of organic matter are reduced, and the digestibility of NDF and ADF is improved. This leads to an increase in daily milk yield and growth. Corn silage obtained by applying Silko is tastier for animals that like to consume it and give better milk quality.

Silko for corn contains 4 specially selected strains of the bacterium Lactobacillus plantarum which can ferment different types of simple sugars (monosaccharides) to lactic acid, producing larger amounts of lactic but amounts of less butyric and acetic acid.

By applying Silko corn silage has a higher content of dry matter and protein and a lower content of ammonia nitrogen. This leads to increased digestibility of food and better growth of animals. Lactic acid has a fungicidal effect, i.e. it stops the growth of mold after opening the silage, which reduces the risk of micro toxins and spoilage.

How to use Silko for corn:

  • For 20t of corn silage: pour 100 ml of Silko in 20 l of water
  • For 50t of corn silage: pour 250 ml of Silko into 50 l of water
  • For 200t of corn silage: 1 l of Silko is poured into 200 l of water

Prepare silage by using standard technology!

The main effects of applying Silko to corn are:

  • Accelerated fermentation;
  • Increased aerobic stability of silage;
  • Improved digestibility of NDF and ADF (digestibility of fibers);
  • Preservation of proteins in their natural form;
  • Increasing daily milk yield and growth;
  • Reduced use of concentrate;
  • Reduced percentage of acetic and butyric acid;
  • Higher nutritional value of silage.
